SRG Membership benefits
If you’re a railway enthusiast, you’ll find a wealth of good reasons to sign up for membership of the SRG. For nearly 50 years, the SRG has been bringing enthusiasts together to share information, resources and, above all, a passion for our Southern railway heritage.
Members’ Information Pack
When you join the Group, you’ll receive an information pack to tell you more about the SRG. Included are the Plans, Library, Portfolio and Sales lists. To make sure it’s always up-to-date, you’ll get regular updates too. You can see our indexes in the Resources section.
Each Member receives the Group’s quarterly journal, Southern Notebook. It includes articles, photographs, operation information and drawings relating to SR history and items of value to modellers. In addition Southern Newsletter is produced bi-monthly and covers current news of Southern interest, preservation notes, members’ enquiries, model reviews, and news of all group activities.
These are collections of items of Southern interest, available for loan to UK Members. The portfolios are unsuitable for publication as they stand, and include research notes, photographs and articles relevant to the portfolio’s subject.
Data Sheets & Plans
Members have access to the SRG’s extensive holdings of plans and data sheets. These are available as posted photocopies charged at cost.
UK Members can borrow by post all items from the Group’s libraries of books, magazines, working timetables and plans. The library lists are continually updated.
The Group organises periodic visits to a wide variety of Southern Railway facilities and Heritage railways.
A private internet mail group is operated by the SRG with the objective of promoting discussion that leads to the wider dissemination of “Southern” information.
An annual Members’ Day takes place every autumn in September or October. The formal meeting is brief as there are other attractions such as a guest speaker and various stands, including the SRG Sales stand.
The annual subscription of £14.00 (or £38.00 for three years-paid in advance) brings a year’s issues of the Notebook and Newsletter and entitles you to participate in all Group activities.
Overseas members are welcome, but certain facilities will naturally be restricted – please contact the Membership Secretary for full details and subscription rates.
